We want your feedback on our position paper on climate change!

In May/June 2022, IAWF will host a global conference on climate and wildfire, in the United States and Australia. In anticipation of this important event, IAWF, under the leadership of past president Alen Slijepcevic, has created a position paper on climate change. We invite our members to comment on the paper as we continue to refine it and produce a clear statement on IAWF’s position in advance of convening next year. Our goal with the paper and the conference is to create conditions for discussion, reflection, sharing and networking as we consider the impact climate change is having on wildfire preparedness, response, and recovery worldwide.  Read the full story
We want your feedback!
From the current issue of Wildfire magazine (October 2021) - The all too familiar hue-and-cry was raised in Cape Town, South Africa, when wildfires erupted on the slopes of Table Mountain on April 18. Neighborhoods and university students evacuated, and more than 250 government and volunteer firefighters and resources were deployed to the scene. Stunned citizens and those watching around the world were asking: How did this happen?

Be a part of the solution by submitting a presentation proposal at the Fire & Climate Conference. Fire & Climate 2022 will bring attention to one of the most important forces shaping wildfire and better prepare how we can focus and respond to this formidable challenge in the new decade.

Some of the themes that are emerging for the conference are:
  • Indigenous fire and climate resilience in action
  • Wildland fire policy for the 21st century and beyond, or forward-thinking wildland fire policy
  • Wildland fire and climate science communication/media
  • Advancing action/ideas from emerging leaders: The future is now!
  • World on fire: Coping with megafires in the age of climate change

Early career professionals and students are especially welcome and encouraged to submit proposals and attend the conference in Pasadena or Melbourne. You are our future; we are listening!
